In December 2014, Bartwood proudly announced that it has been certified as a business owned and controlled by a woman by the National Women Business Owners Corporation (NWBOC), the first national certifier of Women Business Enterprises.

More than 700 public and private sector individuals participated in establishing the Standards and Procedures of this rigid certification review.  “Through this certification, NWBOC seeks to provide more corporations with the opportunity to better their procurement practices and to allow women suppliers the opportunity to compete for corporate and government contracts”, says Janet Harris-Lange, president of NWBOC.

“Certification provides a marketing opportunity for women business enterprises to participate in outreach programs,” says Lori Young, Bartwood’s president and owner.  “Certification that a business is owned by a woman is important if you wish to participate in programs which require partnering with woman-owned businesses.  Having the Woman Business Enterprise certification is the only way decision makers can be sure that a business representing itself as woman-owned is in fact woman-owned,” she added.
